February 2026 – Update!

WES Eagle Families —

We’ve nearly made it through the January doldrums. We recently completed our MOY reading and math assessments. Students are showing great growth and we are excited to celebrate with them! All of their practice and hard work is paying off. We hope you are noticing the improvement in your child as well!

I’ve actually got a quite a few items I want to share with you. Please make time to review this entire email so you can stay up to date with all things Washington Elementary!

  1. Loved Ones & Literacy – February 12 @ 2:30pm – Please join us for our annual love of literacy event! Grandparents, parents, aunts, uncles, siblings and anyone who loves to read is invited to join with us as we celebrate our love of literacy. Classrooms will be open for guests to join in all sorts of literacy promoting activities. Guests may be asked to read to a class, or share how their love of literacy has positively impacted their life, or just join students in an old fashion read-a-thon. Come ready to read!
  2. Annual Dixie Power Kite Festival – April 25 –  Reading calendars have recently been sent home with students. Please remember to read and mark down your student’s progress as they read each day. Students get a free book, kite, or voucher for turning in their calendar at the event! This is always an amazing and wonderful event, plan now to participate!
  3. Ms PVHS – each year Pine View High School and the entire school community comes together to help out an individual or family facing a unique challenge. This year Ally Holt has been selected. She has recently been diagnosed with cancer and we want to support her in her battle against this horrific disease. All of her children attended Washington Elementary and she and her family have long been a part of our Washington Eagle Family. Our school will have fundraising jars available to allow our students and families to participate. This will run thru February 26.
  4. Kindergarten Registration – If you have a child who will turn 5 years old before Sept 2, 2026, then we want them to register for Kindergarten NOW! We are in the early planning stages for our next year kindergarten classes. Enrolling students now helps us to effectively prepare and allows us to be ready to provide the very best education for these brand new kindergarten students.  CLICK HERE to register now, be sure to complete the 2026-27 Upcoming School Year link. If you have questions please contact our office!
  5. Soaring Eagle Awards – this year we have introduced a new award for our students to work towards. These awards exemplify excellence and hard work! The awards are open and available to each one of our students! Each grade level has unique requirements and benchmarks for students to work towards. The link above has all the information. A special awards assembly at the end of the year will celebrate each student who achieves this awesome accomplishment!
  6. High Expectations and Student Behavior – We continue to strive for excellence in all we do here at Washington Elementary. We desire our students to also learn and grow as we strive to teach respect and set high expectations for them academically, behaviorally, and socially. Our ultimate goal is for our students to be amazing human beings as they grow beyond our school. Please talk positively about education and encourage your child to always be respectful and to give their very best effort in all aspects of their life.
  7. Boys and Girls Club (Afterschool) – We would love to invite your child to become part of the Boys and Girls Club community at Washington Elementary School! There are currently open spots available for enrollment (link below)! Boys and Girls Club is more than an after-school program or childcare. Our mission is to help build Great Futures by supporting not only the whole child, but the family as a whole. We believe strong partnerships with families are essential to student success. Our program is open to students of all ages at Washington Elementary, and we value having children of different ages learning and growing together. Through staff-facilitated activities, students build skills by working as part of a team, learning from peers, and persevering independently—always with the guidance and support of caring staff.

If you have any questions at all or would like some assistance please email Aubrie at gro.hatucgb@nospmoht.eirbua or call the club phone at (801) 372-5776 and we will do our best!

If you made it this far … THANK YOU! One final bit of information. We continually practice school safety at Washington Elementary. Today we conducted a lockdown drill with our students and school faculty. Our local Washington City Police School Resource Officer was also here participating with us. Your students were remarkable in practicing, they listened to their teachers and were serious about practicing school safety. (For more information on our WCSD school safety practices CLICK HERE.)

I appreciate and love working with your children. They are remarkable little humans and I’m so grateful that I get to work with and interact with them each day. I seriously have the best job ever! Thanks for your continued support of all things Washington. If you ever have concerns or compliments, let me know!
