2026 April Eagle Update

April 2026 – Update

We are loving the time we have with your amazing students! It is nearly May and we’re down to 4 weeks left of school. WHAT!? I hope your children have loved this school year as much as we have. I have 4 important items to either remind you about or give you all the information about:

  1. Dixie Power Kite Festival – Saturday, April 25 … that is THIS Saturday. This annual celebration of literacy will happen at the campus of Utah Tech University. Students will receive a free book, kite or $10 voucher for activities at the festival. Stop by the office if you need a new calendar!
  2. Annual Hot Dog Night – Celebrating 50 Years at our “NEW” School location, come join us for our Annual Hot Dog Night. April 30 from 5:00 to 6:30pm. Dinner, summer learning kits, BTS Music class informances, and Ga Ga Ball … we can’t wait to celebrate with each of you. See you there!
  3. Teacher Appreciation Week – May 4~8 – Star Wars Themed – be sure to share your love of this school year with your fantastic teacher!
    • Monday, May 4 – Teacher Look-a-like Day – dress like your teacher or wear their favorite color (or dress as your favorite Star Wars Character for Star Wars Day – May the 4th Be With You).
    • Tuesday, May 5 – Letters from the Galaxy – write a heartfelt note or draw a picture to show your teacher how much you appreciate him/her.
    • Wednesday, May 6Fuel the Force – complete acts of kindness: hold open doors, give compliments, find small ways to show kindness throughout the day to help your teacher have an amazing day!
    • Thursday, May 7Supply the Academy – bring a needed classroom supply to support our learning starship.
    • Friday, May 8‘YODA’ best teacher – bring a favorite treat or small surprise to celebrate your teacher!
  4. End of Year Testing – as we are finishing the school year strong, we do have a number of end of year assessments. All our students participate in the Acadience reading measure. This helps us know how your child is reading in grade level text. It also helps us know how your child is progressing in their reading skills. Our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students participate in the RISE assessments. These are summative assessments given to our students to measure their mastery of grade level content. Please watch for information from your classroom teacher about exact dates and times of testing. How you can help your child perform their very best. Encourage your child to give their very best effort, to take their time and to be careful as they work through the testing. Make sure to get a good nights rest each school night, but especially on nights before your child is testing. Eat a healthy breakfast. Continue to encourage and share a positive mindset about school and testing. We hope that each student will show what they know through their participation in these assessments. This helps us know how well we are teaching and helping prepare your child for the next grade level and to one day be an amazing adult.

As always, thanks for your continued support. We recognize how important it is that we work together!

2026 February Update

February 2026 – Update!

WES Eagle Families —

We’ve nearly made it through the January doldrums. We recently completed our MOY reading and math assessments. Students are showing great growth and we are excited to celebrate with them! All of their practice and hard work is paying off. We hope you are noticing the improvement in your child as well!

I’ve actually got a quite a few items I want to share with you. Please make time to review this entire email so you can stay up to date with all things Washington Elementary!

  1. Loved Ones & Literacy – February 12 @ 2:30pm – Please join us for our annual love of literacy event! Grandparents, parents, aunts, uncles, siblings and anyone who loves to read is invited to join with us as we celebrate our love of literacy. Classrooms will be open for guests to join in all sorts of literacy promoting activities. Guests may be asked to read to a class, or share how their love of literacy has positively impacted their life, or just join students in an old fashion read-a-thon. Come ready to read!
  2. Annual Dixie Power Kite Festival – April 25 –  Reading calendars have recently been sent home with students. Please remember to read and mark down your student’s progress as they read each day. Students get a free book, kite, or voucher for turning in their calendar at the event! This is always an amazing and wonderful event, plan now to participate!
  3. Ms PVHS – each year Pine View High School and the entire school community comes together to help out an individual or family facing a unique challenge. This year Ally Holt has been selected. She has recently been diagnosed with cancer and we want to support her in her battle against this horrific disease. All of her children attended Washington Elementary and she and her family have long been a part of our Washington Eagle Family. Our school will have fundraising jars available to allow our students and families to participate. This will run thru February 26.
  4. Kindergarten Registration – If you have a child who will turn 5 years old before Sept 2, 2026, then we want them to register for Kindergarten NOW! We are in the early planning stages for our next year kindergarten classes. Enrolling students now helps us to effectively prepare and allows us to be ready to provide the very best education for these brand new kindergarten students.  CLICK HERE to register now, be sure to complete the 2026-27 Upcoming School Year link. If you have questions please contact our office!
  5. Soaring Eagle Awards – this year we have introduced a new award for our students to work towards. These awards exemplify excellence and hard work! The awards are open and available to each one of our students! Each grade level has unique requirements and benchmarks for students to work towards. The link above has all the information. A special awards assembly at the end of the year will celebrate each student who achieves this awesome accomplishment!
  6. High Expectations and Student Behavior – We continue to strive for excellence in all we do here at Washington Elementary. We desire our students to also learn and grow as we strive to teach respect and set high expectations for them academically, behaviorally, and socially. Our ultimate goal is for our students to be amazing human beings as they grow beyond our school. Please talk positively about education and encourage your child to always be respectful and to give their very best effort in all aspects of their life.
  7. Boys and Girls Club (Afterschool) – We would love to invite your child to become part of the Boys and Girls Club community at Washington Elementary School! There are currently open spots available for enrollment (link below)! Boys and Girls Club is more than an after-school program or childcare. Our mission is to help build Great Futures by supporting not only the whole child, but the family as a whole. We believe strong partnerships with families are essential to student success. Our program is open to students of all ages at Washington Elementary, and we value having children of different ages learning and growing together. Through staff-facilitated activities, students build skills by working as part of a team, learning from peers, and persevering independently—always with the guidance and support of caring staff.

If you have any questions at all or would like some assistance please email Aubrie at gro.hatucgb@nospmoht.eirbua or call the club phone at (801) 372-5776 and we will do our best!

If you made it this far … THANK YOU! One final bit of information. We continually practice school safety at Washington Elementary. Today we conducted a lockdown drill with our students and school faculty. Our local Washington City Police School Resource Officer was also here participating with us. Your students were remarkable in practicing, they listened to their teachers and were serious about practicing school safety. (For more information on our WCSD school safety practices CLICK HERE.)

I appreciate and love working with your children. They are remarkable little humans and I’m so grateful that I get to work with and interact with them each day. I seriously have the best job ever! Thanks for your continued support of all things Washington. If you ever have concerns or compliments, let me know!

2025 November Update

November 2025 Update

Washington Eagle Families —

Welcome to November! Leaves are changing, the weather is perfect, and we’ve settled into a great groove here at school. Our students are making great gains and working extremely hard!

Celebration: Quick shout out to Kindergarten! Our goal is to have all letters and sounds mastered by Nov 1. Our district tracks this data and shares out progress updates. Just yesterday we learned that the district average is 95.5% mastered and at Washington we scored 98%, we’re ahead of the district average and our Kindergarten students scored higher than ever before! WOW!! Great job students! Great job Kindergarten Teachers, Paras, and all our reading intervention team who have been helping our students learn their letter names and sounds! Way to go!

Expectation Review – Arrival & Dismissal:

Please remind your student about what our expectations are for arrival and dismissal. Upon arrival your child should place their backpack at their classroom line up spot and once they hear the 8:55am bell, they should hurry to line up and enter the room with their classmates. If they come for breakfast, they should arrive early enough to eat and then make it to their class on time. At dismissal, remind your child to go right to their pick up spot and focus on watching for their pick up ride. Thanks for your help with this!

Dixie Direct Books:

We now have the 2026 Dixie Direct Books available for purchase in our office. An information flyer will be sent home today. Students can earn prizes for selling the books. https://www.dixiedirectcard.com/schools/washingtonelementary/

Thanks for all of your continued support! I’m looking forward to a wonderful November!

We’ve recently been reviewing student progress as a school staff and we’re excited to see how much our students are growing and progressing! Thanks for supporting your student and always encouraging them to give their very best efforts at school.

I have a few important items to review with you:

Washington Eagle Families —

We are zooming through September! Our school is buzzing with learning each day. We’ve got a new math curriculum and our teachers are working hard to make sure they are prepared each day. We’ve enjoyed some training in literacy and are always trying to get better and better at what we do. I hope that your student is enjoying and sharing their excitement about learning with you at home.

I have 4 important items I want to share:

  1. SEP Conferences – September 24 & 25 from 4~7pm – Schedule your appointment now on our school website – https://wes.washk12.org – (our school password is ‘washington’) – Our goals for these conferences are:

    • We strive for 100% participation in our conferences – please schedule your appointment NOW!
  2. Emergency Preparedness – SECURE Drill – Today at school we held a secure drill. This type of drill involves students and school staff locking classroom doors and continuing normal activities inside their classrooms. A secure is implemented to help provide for safety from a threat outside of the building. We practice a safety drill at least one time each month. This link provides additional information on the types of drills we typically conduct during the school year (Emergency Drills – Parent Handout)
  3. PVHS Homecoming – There are two activities I wanted to make you aware of as part of the upcoming Pine View High School Homecoming week (Sept 22~26). First, the PVHS Homecoming parade will be on Sept 24 at 7pm – look for a float with Eddie the Eagle! Second, on Friday, Sept 26 we invite our students to dress in PV colors – maroon, silver and black.
  4. School Community Council – Our first SCC meeting will be held on Monday, Oct 6 at 3:45pm in our school conference room. If you are interested in participating on our community council please reach out to me directly – email: gro.21khsaw@rekab.mada or phone: 435-673-3012. Washington Eagle Families —

🌟 Celebrating 15 Years of Making a Difference! 🌟 This year marks the 15th anniversary of this incredible PVHS event, and we are honored to introduce their 2024 recipients—Charity and Peter Swapp! ❤️

On behalf of Pine View High School, we are excited to share a special video about this year’s Mr. & Ms. PVHS recipients—Charity and Peter Swapp!

🎥 – https://youtu.be/I3cZtMb6k4″

Charity (5) and Peter (1) are two amazing siblings who live within Sandstone Elementary boundaries. They have Usher’s Disease, which is causing them to lose their hearing and will eventually take their eyesight by their teenage years. Charity attends the School for the Deaf and the Blind, while her older brother is a student at Sandstone Elementary. We are even lucky enough to have another Grandma working at Washington Elementary in our kitchen!

💙 We have our monster money jars out and are now helping to raise funds for these deserving students. Any funds raised through Mr. & Ms. PVHS will go toward the special education programs they need to help them gain independence. 🐾💛
